SUSTAINABILITY

We love being outdoors and are keen to focus on making our business as environmentally friendly as possible. We attach great importance to reducing the burden on the environment and saving the earth’s resources.

Manifesto

Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can. This is the philosophy that Baltic adopts when working with sustainability. Ever since 1977, Baltic has worked with the vision of always being at the forefront when it comes to the development of marine safety products with uncompromising quality. This has made us a market-leading player in our industry.

Never to compromise is something that we now translate into our sustainability work. As a market-leading company, it´s important that we take uncompromising responsibility here. We are humble by the great task that stand before us, yet our sustainability work has started, and we are very proud of that.

Transparency

We at Baltic always want offer our customers transparency in the choices we make. Working with sustainability has many and difficult aspects, therefore we invite our customers to ask us the tough questions. That way we can develop together.

We want to be transparent in the choices we make, why we make them – and why we can’t do certain things.

Strategic Initiatives

Circular economy

Our earth cannot provide us with infinite resources, therefore Baltic works towards a circular economy and make our value chain more circular.

Our goals for 2026 are:
  • 50% of our range shall be made from recycled material
  • Be able to offer products made from 100% recycled material.
  • Currently, we have a collection that is made from 100% recycled material where the standard allows us. This means a product made from 80% recycled material.
  • Offer our customers a second-hand webshop
  • Offer maintenance and repair of products

Reduce CO2 footprint

Baltic is working towards being in line with the Paris Agreement and lowering our CO2 emissions. In the summer of 2022, Baltic signed the Science Based Targets agreement, and thereby takes on the responsibility of compliance with the Paris Agreement.

We shall achieve this by:
  • By constantly improving, streamlining, and preventing, we manufacture our life jackets with minimal energy consumption and low emissions.
  • Baltic buys only electricity from renewable energy sources
  • The design and development process are focused on efficient utilization of the raw material as possible and thus reduced waste.
  • Optimizes logistics and reduces the need for transport to reduced CO2 emissions.
  • Limits the use of electricity through storage in a cold dehumidified environment and a temperature policy in heated premises.
  • Uses energy-saving office machines and fluorescent tubes.

Social Responsibility

Baltic has a strong stance on business integrity, and we are following the international guidelines defined by the UN Sustainable Development Goals 2030, UN Global Compact’s ten principles, “Children’s Rights and Business Principles” (CRBP), the OECD’s guidelines for multinational companies, the UN’s guiding principles on business and human rights and the UK Bribery Act. We condemn all forms of corruption and fraud, and demand openness, integrity, and honesty in all parts of our business operation in every country. In the same way, we clearly repudiate child labour, forced labour and working conditions that can be viewed as harmful, abusive, or directly hazardous.

Baltic follows the principles of this Code of Conduct and wants to set an international example in sustainable development and its operations are to enable the long-term development of communities that create value for future generations and generate prosperity.

Baltic is only conducting business with suppliers who fulfil our Code of Conduct, which is based on above-mentioned principles.

What we are doing already:

As far as possible, only use recyclable packaging materials

Sort and recycle plastics, cardboard, and paper to the greatest extent possible.

We only use companies approved by the authorities for the recycling of computers and other waste management.

Solar panels

50% of our energy consumption at our head office and warehouse comes from our own solar panel facility. The remaining energy use comes from 100% renewable energy.

Our subsidiary in England, will install solar cells on their office and warehouse during the winter 2022. The solar panels will cover 60% of our energy consumption at our facility. Remaining energy consumption comes from 100% renewable energy sources.
